PFLAG Microaggressions
Awareness Campaign
About The Design
In addressing the issue of microaggressions targeting the LGBTQ+ community, I conducted interviews with individuals that identified as queer. Through these interviews, I identified a theme that occurred in several responses, notably centered around phrases and expressions that carried undertones of inappropriateness or borderline gossip.
To highlight the absurdity inherent in such comments and questions, I chose to conceptualize these common phrases as sensationalized tabloid headlines. This approach served to underscore the inanity and harm that comes from perpetuating these microaggressions. Drawing inspiration from the vintage halftones of queer zines prevalent from the 1970s to the 1990s, the goal was to imbue the project with a visually compelling aesthetic. This combination of a tabloid tone and retro zine aesthetics not only enhanced the project's visual appeal but also fostered a deeper connection with the LGBTQ+ community, strengthening its contextual relevance.
